What numbers need to be changed when revising the 2008 sample press release in the competition downloads section?

This should be the 118th competition.

Nashville dates & location instead of Phoenix.

Total number of entries?

Total number of merit prints and the breakdown (G + GB + L)?

Anything else?

Hey Mark,

we are waiting on a quote for the final press release, but here is the main body of it. We will update the release on PPA.com to the 2009 version very shortly.

For Immediate Release
(TODAY’S DATE)

Local Photographer’s Work Goes to International Exhibition

A (PRINT/ALBUM) created by (NAME) of (STUDIO) in (CITY) has recently been accepted into the (GENERAL/LOAN) Collection of the 2009 International Print Competition. (LAST NAME’S) work will be on display at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, January 10-12, 2009, in Nashville, Tenn. This exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention of professional photographers and several photographic associations.

A panel of over 40 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top images from more than 4,300 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, almost 1,700 images were selected for the General Collection and just over 500 (12 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book, and nearly 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press.

Titled (“ENTRY TITLE,”) (LAST NAME’S) entry will be in Nashville alongside other photographic works from not only PPA’s print competition, but also traveling and special invitational displays. These images constitute the world’s largest annual exhibit of professional photography gathered simultaneously under one roof.

Professional Photographers of America (PPA), an international non-profit association, exists to assist its 22,000 members in achieving their professional, artistic and fraternal goals; to promote public awareness of the profession; and to advance the making of images in all of its disciplines as an art, a science and a visual recorder of history.

Mark, i mispoke. The PR posted above is good to go as is. The quote I mentioned is actually for PPA's news release on the competition and exhibit.

Do feel free to add a quote of your own, or more personal details. For tips on writing and formatting press releases, also check out:

Any idea when POY's will be posted for all to see?

There is a typo in the Press release. It should read "...January 10-12, 2010..." (not 2009).

Any idea when we will get our cases back?

You will get your case back with your prints after IUSA next January. Unless you did not hang any prints, then those non merited prints and your case will be returned to you shortly.

So the case with non-merit prints doesn't come back reasonably soon? I didn't realize the case would be gone so long when I borrowed it from a fellow photographer who didn't enter this year. I merited 2 of 4 entered.

I may get corrected on this, but if you had any images accepted in the general collection, your case will not be returned to you until after IUSA. Maybe it will be returned to you sooner if your two images are Loan selections.

True...you won't get you case back until after the convention.

If you had loan images they don't return the prints. Not sure why...does anybody know what they do with them?

In my case I guess I'll get an empty case back. But heck...If I could get four loan prints every year they can have them.

Loan images will go to Korea.

If you want a definitive answer you go to the authority. I am always surprised when people post questions here that they could just email Jim Dingwell and get the correct answer right away. So that's what I did to make sure I was correct and I was. If you had no merit prints or all loan prints, your case was either shipped back already or will be next week. If you had any combination of merited, non-merited and or loan images, your case will be held until after IUSA when your merited & non merited images will be returned in that case. Mark, if you friend needs their case back before next Feb. you will probably need to buy them another case.

FWIW, everyone should remember that you do not have to ship your prints to national in a case, you can use a box. If you ship in a box, you will not get the prints back.

Keith, I was just throwing out the question to see if anyone knew off the top of their head when we would get them back. If it had been urgent I would have emailed Jim.

It does seem like a long time, they basically keep the print cases for 10 months. Sent it in May and get them back in February.

I already got my case back...of course it was empty...!

No big deal though.
