My wife and I were planning on leaving Tuesday afternoon, but now see there's a closing party Tuesday night. This will be our first Imaging USA convention so we have no frame of reference. Is it worth staying over another night to catch this last event?

We've always come in the day before and left the day after. Sunday through Tuesday are jam-packed days, and it's worth every minute. The parties are a good way to meet people, but of course you have to be willing to get out there. There's usually dancing, food/drinks, and give aways. The last night is a celebration for a lot of ppl who get awards, and many tend to get crazy since it's their last night there.

hope this helps. maybe we'll see you there!

Hi Adam,

When you get the first opportunity, please fill in the information of your first and last name in the "userCP" (control panel) so that you fulfill your TOS agreement.

Michael as the the Moderator...

Michael as the regular human being...

Heck Yeah! Go to the closing party. That is where you get to see all the degree candidates strutting around with their new medallions, and all the people you met during the convention. Usually, the OurPPA gang try to be in close proximity to each other and they are a blast to be with.

Besides, you wouldn't want Rick to be upset at you because you didn't see him in his tux, would you? :D

I've never gone to the ending party - is that tux-appropriate as well as the awards ceremony?

Hi Adam,

My tux will be one from the studio that has been worn by more Seniors than I can count... I'm trying to dig up one that isn't too ratty looking...

The tux'es are pretty much for the degree candidates and the special awards recipients - everybody else just wears whatever they want - usually most people dress up a bit, but not heavily - especially those who plan to drink heavily, dance a lot, and do a lot of partying at the after ceremony party...

But the final party is always good - hey, it's gotta be, especially this year, it's Dennis' last big blast as "da Prez" before Ron takes over in March... so it's gotta be a hoot !!!

Okay folks, you've talked us into it. We're gonna add a night and take it all in.
Thanks for the replies.

Adam,

I take a more practical approach to the closing night party. Yes it is fun. Yes, it is a chance to say good bye to the folks you've met and network one last time. But, the cost of the extra night plus the flight/travel schedule should be taken into account. I would not schedule a flight that caused me to miss any of the seminars or tradeshow. But I might be tempted to leave Tuesday evening if I can find a flight that leaves late enough so that only thing I miss is the closing party.

This is the first convention I have attended. Someone mentioned that the men wore tux's for the closing party. What about the women? What would be more appropriate: cocktail dress, evening gown, or sunday's best? I'm a little confused. Heck I'm just a jeans and t-shirt country gal. I didn't even know what business casual was.

You'll do fine in just Jeans and t-shirt. In fact, they usually pass out t shirts for the next convention location.

I am, but I prefer to be social with my wife than a bunch of strangers if you know what I mean. :D

I guess it all depends upon your perspective. I've been a PPA member since 1979, and in the last 30 years I've made friends from all over the country. I always help the PEC take down the print exhibit on the last day and I always attend the awards ceremony, since I often have friends and acquaintances who are being recognized, so I am always there the last day, and I usually fly home the day after. I look at the closing party as my last chance to see some of my friends, and have a little fun with them until next year - so for me, it's worth staying over (that's why I prefaced my reply with "imho"). I wouldn't miss it. Besides - it gives me a chance to pick up a couple of free T-shirts !!!

Of all the IUSA I've attended, I've never missed the closing night and I didn't want it to end then. I always show up early and stay as late as possible. I always hate to say goodbye, especially to new friends and old ones that PPA has allowed me to meet. Bring Lots of Business Cards and an empty pocket for ones you'll receive from new friends. See you there!

I AGREE, BUT I missed the time that T-shirts were being given out - clever, but I do not have one for Phoenix. They ran out.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

You must have gotten to the closing party late or left early. The PPA Staff people and a few volunteers get up on stage and start throwing them to the crowd on the dance floor - so the more you party, and the more you dance, the more likely you'll be in the right spot when they start tossing the T-Shirts!!! It's kinda like Mardi Gras only better - you can actually wear what you catch instead of just going home with a bunch of beads !!!

Oh - it's now after Midnight sooooooo...

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY !!!!!
C Y'ALL IN PHOENIX !!!!!!:D:D:D

We didn't get our t shirts either, mainly because once we got to the party after the awards ceremony, we had trouble finding where the main party at the Aquarium was.

I also love the closing night party. I always book my flight out the next day so that I can attend. Does anyone know where they are having the Next stop...Nashville party this year? Although last year's party was very nicely put together and the aquarium was a really cool meeting place, I did miss the music and dancing that the closing night party usually includes.

George & Lori,
I agree - the Aquarium was a cool place for a final party, but it was a bit too spread out with too many little areas for people to gather, so it was difficult to find friends who were there - they could have been there but just in a different area and you couldn't find them. We got our T-Shirts at the door when we left the Aquarium at the end of the party - and we were close to the end of the group leaving the Aquarium - you must have been one of the last party animals to leave if they ran out of T-Shirts !!!

YES, very spread out. No throwing T-shirts from the stage! I had looked around. As I was exiting, staff said "all gone".

NOW, I am in the stages of deciding to not travel; I am regretting that I may not be able to visit Grand Canyon after convention.
Let's see what the remainder of 2009 brings!
