Ok, this one is a big step for me since I really don't know how qualified I am to do this, but I signed up to be a Super Monday instructor. For very beginners only, of course, but it is a start!:o
Now I just hope I a. get someone to sign up and b. if I do, they aren't all from my town...
If I can do it, Y'all can do it too.

Good for you!! What are you teaching?

What not to do....Ok, not really. I signed up to teach a class for newbies mostly since I don't really think anyone that knows anything would glean any info from me.:o
For beginners and those wanting to open a studio. Basic strobe and available lighting concepts, marketing and business and some basic photoshop. Hope it's not too much for one day.
I guess I'll find out...

If you get anyone from our area, tell them the class is full! :D Just kidding! :p
Hope it goes well. You never know how much you have to share as a teacher to you try it. My problem gets to be knowing when to quit when I teach gardening topics.

Congratulations! You did a great thing. I always learn more by teaching. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Well, I took the plunge and signed up too. I apparently missed the deadline (where was I when that flew by?) but they still had the application online.
I am going to teach workflow from start to finish. I already have a model lined up, will go on location and create images, then come back to the studio. I have a laptop and projector and plenty of seating in my camera room so we can do all the work there.

Now, having done that...what do I do next? I could use some help writing a description, I know that. I assume I can edit what I put on the application.
I want to hold the class for those just starting out, or been at it for a little while, beginner to intermediate. I already have a model lined up, and want to go on location and do a bridal session, then come into the studio and go through the workflow from start to finish.
We have two professional groups up here that you can email a blast to. I figure I can do some email blasts to them, they both have a zillion photographers as members, lots of beginners and new to the business.
How else should I market this?

On here will help. Simply post updates as to what you will be teaching. When you have your final course descripton, post that. Make sure you post images of where you plan to photograph the model to build interest in attending.
For the concise course description, that comes in the PPA Magazine, embellish it to sound like the best thing ever.
Good luck, my friend !!!
P.S. ... isn't it soon warm enough there to lose the parka ? It will be 80ºF here in south central Pa. today.

I can lose the parka as soon as Michael Imus takes a new photo of me.....in the meantime that one will stay! Although it has been warm enough lately to have the top down on the convertible, and last weekend I was able to ride the horse in a tank top, except a rain storm came through that afternoon and we had to bundle up again. At least it wasn't snow...
OK, here's what I plan to do for Super Monday. I'm kind of like Tiffany, will teach to beginners, those just starting out. There are a TON of them in this area. I am not worried about potential competition, as I beleive there is enough to go around. We will start outside with a model, doing off camera lighting. I will have my assistant with me, just like on a real job. Craig, thanks for the suggestion, I have photos of the location I have in mind and will post them. After that, we'll come back to my studio, and go from start to finish. Copying files, lightroom, photoshop, building an album. If anyone has any suggestions for me I'm all eyes and ears. This is my first time doing this!
I also know, like Valerie, that I learn more by teaching, as that has been my personal experience, so I'm excited about this!

I hope Michael can do a new avatar photo of you soon. To counter the parka ... how about the new one in a bikini ? ;)
All the good Super Mondays I've been to have had a really good place for everyone to go eat. Maybe you can scout it out and post that too. There is a restaurant near Harrisburg which is right at the Susquehanna River and has terrific views while you eat. So one with a view of the lake ?

I think the bikini shot would probably scare a lot of people away...
I was thinking about what to do for lunch. There's actually a great place right around the corner from my studio, we could all walk there. It doesn't have a lake view, but it has excellent food. I was also thinking about having them cater and bring lunch to us at my studio.
