View Full Version : Which Categories Count?

Okay in looking at how to divide your submissions for CPP image review.

I understand, Portrait, Wedding, Commercial, Seniors, is that all?

Are there other categories like children, babies, bellies, or are those all subcategories of portraits.

Is sports and events photography a category?

For things like photographing stage productions? That's really the only way I know how to phrase it. I mean being the official photographer hired by the producers for publicity shots. Is that a category? What would you call it?

I could be wrong (I quite frequently am! :) ) but I think that seniors, families, etc, all fall under portraits, then there is weddings. I had two categories: portraits and weddings, and my seniors, etc all went into the portrait section. I don't know about the stage production, although that might qualify for commercial.

Hey, Cindi -
The only catagories you have to choose from on the application are:

So all your seniors, babies, bellies, etc., would fall under portrait. Weddings, obviously, are in their own category, as are sports/events. I would think your stage production, depending on the type of images you are producing for them (and how they're used), could either fall under commerical or under events.

Hi Cindi.

I got an email a couple days back from Marisa@PPA regarding the %'s for categories on the image submissions. Here's what she said...

"The %’s are not documented in your record, plus the judges don’t look at it as a requirement when reviewing your images. They do look for a variety of your work though."

So I think no matter what, as long as you have a little diversity, you should be okay. (I originally asked her because I couldn't remember the percentage I had submitted). Sleep-deprivation moment. :)

Thanks so much Heather and Angela.
This answer makes me look at my body of work in a different light.
I was digging for mainly portrait/wedding type images.
I shoot everything from product shots to football games, shows in the casinos, local events and theater productions.
Hmmmmm. . . . I'll have to look at some other stuff.
