Thanks a bunch!

No sky for me - seems to pull my eye away from the kitty.

- trr (totally ignorant of competition)

no sky but more space!

What Marc B said.:)

03-04-2008, 01:02 AM
no sky. .

03-04-2008, 01:08 AM
I agree with no sky.

03-04-2008, 01:26 AM
once again-no sky.

i think you already knew the answer.

No sky...

(this part is just filler text so I can post my reply because "no sky" by itself is too short!)

03-04-2008, 01:32 AM

Hahaha, just kidding.

No sky.

03-04-2008, 01:38 AM
No sky. 72! Ha. Just messing with you! The sky will get stomped on by the judges. Great image. Should do well!

03-04-2008, 01:50 AM
I am going against the grain and saying sky. You might tone it down a little more, but I feel it gives a better sense of place. The first crop seems to tight for me. Just so you know my wife says I am wrong again. I'm use to it.

I like the no sky image but I would like to see what would happen if you took Chris' advice since I feel the cat is a bit closed in.

03-04-2008, 02:20 AM
No sky for sure. The kitty does seem to be a bit crowded. I would like to see more room especially above his/her head and maybe a tad more to the right of the image. It would be great if you gave it even more of a wide screen ratio add more to the right as well. But especially above the head. Nice shot though.

What I would do is go with no sky. Add a bit more space to top of your Image. Think you would have more impact.
Just my thoughts, In no way am I an expert!

03-04-2008, 02:49 AM
I'd give him (her?) more room above. In the first picture, it looks as if his head is lowered to keep from hitting the top of the frame. I like the space he has in the second image, but not the sky. That shouldn't be too hard to fix, right? ;)

By "fix" she means go back and re-shoot, right? lol.

Seeing as how I am a competition expert and all, I know you are on the edge of your seat awaiting my response. I would score this image 82, but I would like a little more room on top, and a little more of a snarl on the lips. I would like a couple kittens playing in the background, and maybe a little prairie dog peeking up to see what's going on.

Sorry for the waste of time - I just wanted to say I agree with Marc - I love it without the sky, but when you add the brightness of the sky, it takes away the scary/sinister look. It makes him look more like a kittycat. But you know what my opinion is worth as far as comp prints!!

Sheep all of you! baaa baaaa!

where is Michael Imus anyway????

Love ya Jeffy Poo!:D

I'll go against the grain with Chris.

I prefer sky--it's a mountain lion, doggonit, and it should have a mountain in the background. I like the more definite feeling of place. It also gives the kitty more headroom.

However, you could put some darker, gloomier clouds in that sky to tone it down a bit.

No Sky
I agree a little more space above her head might help.
I still think you over did it with the reflector under the chin.....
just kidding.

No sky! Tis a "light trap" and takes the viewer out of the frame ... new word I learned this year at MES ... "light trap". Judges must have used it a couple hundred times. I also agree with Marc though ... build in some more head room though.

03-04-2008, 07:35 AM
no Sky! :)

03-04-2008, 11:23 AM
Looks like the "No Skys" have it.

I agree with what everyone else said. Great image.

03-04-2008, 01:43 PM
What Marc said again. Are we going in a circle? I think we are back to the beginning!

03-04-2008, 01:44 PM
sorry for my last post that made no sense. I really shouldn't drink this early in the morning.

That tree is so interesting, I would PS the Cat out of the picture. Balanced with the sky you will easily have a loan image.

Now that is creative thinking!! Everyone else sees the obvious but the master, Don Chick, is able to see the forrest for the trees.

I like the sense of place I get from the sky -- without sky - could look like a zoo? My opinion -- first timer, so might not be worth anything. These threads are very entertaining! I would like to see the sky played with a bit to see if it can pop without being a distraction.

No sky. :)

Jeff - you asked me last night to look at this and comment. I am not gonna say anything cause I know you know what the right choice is here.

P.S. 27,000,000 forum members can't be wrong.

Thank you everyone for your help. I am going to take your advise and leave the sky in. Thanks so much.

Well....myself, Kirk and Marilyn think you're brilliant for making that enlightened decision. :D
