A bar in the middle of the histogram indicates your middle gray. You should calibrate your camera by photographing a gray card and see where it lnads on your histogram. This will tell you if your camera has an incorrect ISO (no two sensors are alike). For example, my Fuji S3 is dead on, but my S3 is about 1/5 to the right, which means my camera is underexposing by about 1/3 a stop. So, I use my EV control to compensate +1/3.

I had to check on the gray card thing, because I don't often use one but did on Fri. and that histogram is to the R of center I guess according to Michael an incorrect ISO on my new 40D. I guess that's why my pics look a little underexposed? We were rushed so I didn't make all the adjustments I wanted to . . .
