Vital Signs: Talking to Clients About Digital Files and Copyright

As copyright owners, photographers have the ability to determine how an image may be reproduced, edited or made into derivative works, displayed and distributed. These exclusive rights are yours to share with your clients (or not), and they do have a value attached to them as do your prints. In today's world, it is not uncommon for clients to want the digital files of their images—whether it is to put on their Facebook pages or to keep for their own archival purposes.
